We can all recall our favourite villains and heroes from children’s movies – but what about the cutest and scariest, nicest and craziest?
I asked guest-blogger Jo Berry, a film critic and mum of one who runs the website movies4kids.co.uk, for her 12 BEST MOVIE CHARACTERS FOR KIDS.
Why not check out Jo’s site and its database of over 1000 reviews of films aimed at kids, teens and families. She also reviews the latest cinema and DVD releases. You can also follow Jo on Twitter @movies4kids
BEST SUPERHERO: Ginormica (Monsters Vs Aliens, 2009)
Forget those do-gooders in The Incredibles, or grown-men-in-stretchy-lycra like Spider-Man, and check out Ginormica and her pals in this terrific animated comedy. After Susan (Reese Witherspoon) is zapped by an alien meteorite, she is turned into a giant and sent to a secret government installation that also houses B.O.B (a blob of blue jelly with one eye), former frozen fishy Missing Link and mad scientist Dr Cockroach. Not the likeliest of heroes, but when aliens attack, they are (gulp) our only hope…
CUTEST ANIMAL: Mumble (Happy Feet, 2006)
Yeah, Nemo is a cute fish and Bambi is a cuddly deer, but Mumble the penguin has the edge in our house, with his fluffy face and twinkly blue eyes. With a sequel (featuring son-of-Mumble!) coming out in cinemas in December, it’s time to get the kids’ toes tapping to the original in which little Mumble can’t sing like all his pals – but boy, can he dance. Younger kids will love the cuteness, older ones will get the jokes and the eco-message – and everyone will want their own pet penguin by the end.
