Every week, @tara_cain’s Sticky Fingers’ Gallery inspires me to think about my life: what was, what is, where it’s going. And her Black & White theme this week has been the perfect opportunity to dig out my old photo albums and look back on a time when me and my brothers were so close, so innocent and so un-tainted by the world.
I don’t remember any of these pictures being taken, which just goes to prove how much of our lives are lost to us because of the failings of our brains and memories. And that’s why the camera is one of the greatest ever inventions.
These pictures are taken when we lived in the backstreets of Manchester, in an area called Bradford, which has now become Ardwick. I’m the oldest, and cutest of the kids, by a mile.

What’s poignant about these photos is that they still exist. There’s a very good chance that when your kids are your age, they’ll still exist but you’ll be searching for the right hard drive, the right program, to open the digital files we use today.
I was chatting to the bloke who runs the old camera shop in town, trying to find some 120 film for my Holga camera (he didn’t have any). The demise of the film camera is slowly killing that arm of his business and he spends a lot of his time warning people to backup their photos, to get them printed properly and not just on home inkjets, to really preserve the pictures they want to keep.
I think I’ve just found the theme for my Random Wednesday!
Old photos are so precious. I love your selection of pictures…you haven’t changed at all! x
What a lovel selection of photos, really like the insight into our backgrounds that snaps like these can give. You were very cute, love your curly mop.
You look like a bit of a cheeky monkey! Could look at these type of photos all day. We’re in the process of having a bit of a clear out for my Gran and I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to a day spent going through her huge photo collection. Nat
You really haven’t changed at all. Take that as you will

Awwww Keefy! How cute! Your cute boys are a chip off the old block. You look like butter wouldn’t melt in your mouth. Bet your Mum would tell me different! LOL

You guys look like a mischievous lot!
) Great photos.
I love looking at old photos — those were great! And, yes you were definitely the cutest! LOL
Pure class – although you look worryingly like my youngest boy.
These are so atmospheric – love all the details that place them in a certain time – the baby bath and the pyjamas and I think, the clothes horse just in shot. Fab! Really interesting first comment too – so true!
what a cute bunch! You and your brothers haven’t changed a bit!! haha
Love these Keith – such a great collection of memories, you can’t beat old photos. I go through Ardwick quite a bit as I’m usually going to gigs at The Apollo – get me!
p.s. Sorry I haven’t been about much lately.
i love looking through photos, and like the first comment here, it is a shame that not as many get printed out these days, but in the same taken more get taken now, I wonder which is better..
